CANON avatar: the legend of korra
CANON POINT post s4
HISTORY: here.
PERSONALITY:
Although Korra's kinship is with the element water, to know her is to know something more closely resembling fire.
Since birth, the title Avatar has had a strong influence on Korra. They're big shoes to fill, and Korra sees to it by combating insecurity or ignorance with an assertive nature. Time and time again, her necessity to be strong overrules the better judgement of her friends or mentors - Korra is steadfast and headstrong, and generally once she gets her mind set on something, it's impossible to dissuade her without her interpreting it as a betrayal. In that light, she's also a fairly sensitive individual which is a product of, unfortunately, living a very sheltered childhood. Of course, she's come a long way from the Korra you see in the first two seasons of the show, but there are trails of the child she used to be still ever present in her day to day life.
On top of her own stubbornness, Korra is also incredibly impulsive, which makes a molotov cocktail of, generally, poor decisions. She's the type of person who needs to fail before she can succeed, and needs to hit a certain low point in her life in order to improve herself. At her canon point, Korra has hit this particular low point in a near death experience that left her in a wheelchair, which as a girl who's been praised her entire life for being special, worked to humble her loud personality and almost arrogance. Korra has lived apart from her Avatar title, spending a few years training less as a someone of note and more as a lost individual seeking guidance. This is particularly important in Korra's characterization, because despite what she would say otherwise, she's lived a fairly dependent life on those around her. Distancing herself allowed her to find her own path, uncover what's truly important in life and, frankly, mature.
It isn't like she did a complete change around into something entirely serious, though. Korra is still, at her core, an immature and goofy person, and possess traits befitting a child more than a grown woman. She has an almost adolescent sense of humor, and shows an innate capability of being jealous towards any number of things. The latter is something she's improved on over the years, but it's still worthy of mention. Her lack of interaction with people around her age group makes her cling onto the people she has, responding viciously when any particular relationship is threatened.
That's to say nothing of loyalty, which is the very foundation of Korra's being. She is a devoted person to her friends and family, and also to her duties as Avatar - it's a river inside her that never dries, that overflows with the welcoming of new people in her life. That said, she used to be much more generous with her loyalty than she is now. Circumstance and time have made her a little jaded towards trusting newer people, because her compassion and eagerness in most things is a weakness that's been exploited on time and time again. She's smartened up in the time she's taken to develop on her own, but she is without a doubt still the headstrong and fiery girl she's always been, ready to throw herself entirely at anything that requires her attention. She's not one to do absolutely anything by halves.
Despite her aforementioned attitude problem, to be the Avatar is to also have a strong sense of insecurity towards self regardless - it's an important role, and while Korra isn't first to say she doesn't deserve the title, there are times when she believes mastering the elements is all she's good for, and without her powers she would be nothing. This is a particular fear Korra will never fully grow out of, mainly if not entirely because people will always be relying her, and she will always doubt her capabilities in that respect. For as extroverted as she is, Korra is also a deeply reflective person, who tends to bury her worries deep where no one can visibly see them. She isn't emotionally stunted, but she correlates showing emotions like fear or sorrow with weakness, which might be above all else, what her biggest downfall is. She has plenty of room in her heart for a million people, but when it comes to taking up shop in someone else, she doubts her worth.
CANON POWERS:
Korra is the Avatar, which means a variety of things. The first and foremost is that she's a master of manipulating all four elements to do her biding. The lesser part of it is that her soul is entwined with the peaceful spirit Raava, making her and all her past lives the harmonic bridge between humans and spirits.
OTHER:
GAME INFO;
MAGIC ABILITY: Light manipulation. Essentially she's going to try and make up a new form of bending, by being given the power of an entirely different element.
ANY PETS?: Naga is a very big pupper, but other than being the size of a polar bear, she's not magical at all.
